The Eternal Flame

Celebrating the timelessness of the Celtic soul with captivating melodies, choral arrangements, and entrancing poetry, the 2024 Celtic Fire! program will trace the evolution of Celtic music from its ancient roots in melodies from the Celtic regions of Galicia (northern Spain), Norway, and other parts of Europe to Irish fiddle tunes and music by celebrated composers such as Turlough O'Carolan, Sean O'Raida, and Michael McGlynn.  A band of accomplished musicians playing Irish harp, wooden flute, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, concertina, bodhrán, double bass, pipe organ and Highland pipes will be featured and will accompany the singers.

Suzanne Gates, Artistic Director of CitySingers of Hartford since 1985, is known for her creative use of choral and instrumental resources in programs that deepen our understanding of musical and spiritual traditions and flow seamlessly between pieces, styles and centuries.
