2018-2019 Season

Nowell in any language or culture refers to the Nativity and the birth of hope for a better world. In a spirit of joy and peace, CitySingers of Hartford celebrates the season with a blend of exuberant and heartwarming carol settings and motets from many periods in history including selections from the Renaissance to current compositions. In addition to a cappella choral works and selections accompanied by harp, woodwinds, bells, percussion and pipe organ, our audience will be invited to join us in singing unique arrangements of familiar carols and celebrate this most festive season of “Nowell!” … “Now well!” … “All is Well!

Celtic Fire!

The Eternal Flame

Celtic Fire! celebrates the sacred Celtic tradition igniting the imagination with captivating melodies and entrancing poetry. CitySingers of Hartford will explore this tradition and trace its evolution from ancient roots. Our program will inspire our listeners with chant, beautiful folk melodies and compositions by celebrated Irish composers such as Turlough O'Carolan, Sean O'Riada, and Michael McGlynn, as well as music originating in the Celtic region of Galicia (northern Spain), Norway and other parts of Europe. Instrumental tunes and accompaniments (including reels and jigs!) will feature Celtic musicians known throughout our region for their mastery of Irish harp, wooden flute, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, concertina, bodhrán, double bass, pipe organ and highland pipes.
